Men Building Bridges for Our Youth

  • To create programs that address the many challenges facing our youth;
  • To establish career preparation through education and goal setting;
  • To serve as role models demonstrating values such as, integrity, tenacity and commitment;
  • To present positive alternatives to substance abuse, crime and high truancy rates;
  • To reinforce the values and the principles of personal responsibility, self-discipline and healthy behavior

The Pillars of our organization are: Mentoring, Education, Health and Wellness, Economic Development and Leadership.

Mentoring - The 100 Black Men of South Metro, Inc. seek out those youth in the community who need father figures, role models, counselors, disciplinarians, and a life that has choices. These choices that are not about drugs, violence, school dropout, and prison sentences. Other choices include college opportunities, entrepreneurships and self worth.

The 100 Black Men of South Metro, Inc. provide success-producing opportunities for youth through specific organizational programs.

Rites of Passage

The 100 Black Men of South Metro, Inc. provides a bridge – Rites of Passage – from adolescence to adulthood for youth in the South Metro area of Atlanta.  The program consists of twenty-two weeks of intensive training in male/female relationships, career selection, etiquette, business, educational field trips, politics/current events, and individual and group presentations. This program has impacted in excess of 1000 youth formally since its existence. Today, we are proud to say we are the brand of choice when our community needs a mentor, a confidant and one they can rely on.

Each member takes personal responsibility for a one-on-one relationship with a young man.  The relationship includes a holistic approach that grooms the young man for the demands and expectations of a successful adult life.  Each young man is matched with a member of the 100 Black Men of South Metro, Inc. whose occupation most closely relates to the student’s career field of choice.  The program culminates with a Black Tie affair (Southern Crescent Beautillion) held in April of each year.  At this event the senior students are presented to the community by their mentors as having achieved the status of manhood.  The Rites of Passage program is the embodiment of the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.”

Education- The South Metro Chapter refuses to accept second class educational processes for our youth and community, by being a force and presence in the classroom, listening to our youth, reading to our youth, providing materials to make the learning process less challenging. Refusing to accept our children being labeled as special ed, behavior challenged or disciplinary subjects and rejecting the same old way of doing business. We have seen our youth be proud of successful men setting the example of what they can be. We assisted in establishing SAT tutorials and seen improvement in broad percentages. “Together we can Reach One Teach One.”
